The Stray Chicken!

Most of the cats that we have owned in our lives, have been strays that have found there way to our house and claimed us. So we very familiar with strays. We have seen stray cats and dogs, but never before have we found a stray chicken! It seemed especially strange, because I already have chickens.

Today after lunch, we received a knock on the door from a neighbor informing us that one of my chickens were in there drive way. We checked our backyard real quick, and both of our chickens were back there. Knowing that it wasn't our bird, we were excited to see this chicken. We went to the neighbors drive way and there was a red hen searching for bugs. We had no idea whose chicken it could be. We were afraid it might get eaten by a dog, so I picked it up and took it home so it could be safe with my chickens. The chicken was wonderfully friendly and enjoyed Scott to hold it and pet it. Our chickens don't enjoy being touched, so Scott quickly bonded with his new found friend. We fed it and showed it the chicken coop, and it followed Scott around the yard for a while. Our chickens, Susquehanna and Laroo, were a bit upset with Scott bringing home a new lady. They voiced their discontent with angry little clucks. Fortunately, only one little fight between our chickens and the stray broke out.

We were not quit sure what to think. The neighbors were certain that she had been abandoned at my house because I already have chickens. We thought that she could be someones dearly loved bird, so we set out to find it rightful owners.

To Scott's great disappointment, we found the owners searching for their bird. It happens to be owned by a new kid that moved on to the street. He had just gotten the bird and doesn't have a coop for her yet. We look forward to staying friends with the little red hen as Scott had become quite attached.
